Our new Ron Paul Australia Supporters' Forum is up and running. Click through here to visit the home page of the site. Ron Paul is a ten term Republican congressman running for President of the USA in 2008. Paul's platform of sound monetary policy, small government, low taxes, reduced military spending and personal liberty hark back to the traditional views of American conservatives. Ron Paul's run for nomination is intriguing for more than the policy he proposes; his independent spontaneous campaign, record fundraising and appeal across party lines is unprecedented in US political history, even if his policies are not.
The Paul push for nomination is intriguing not just for the online phenomenon. |
A successful Ron Paul campaign for office could have as much impact abroad as in the USA. With the United States maintaining over 100 bases on foreign soil and taking an extensive military interest in world events a renewed focus on trade and economic cooperation over military and diplomatic alignments will potentially lead to a new era of prosperity. People tend to think military might has made America the world's superpower. |
4th February 2008 - News Corp Mentions Ron Paul! Stop the presses! Ron Paul's name actually appeared in today's Australian Newspaper even if it was in the context of his being a hopeless candidate supported by the marginalised fringes of American society. With the Republican field reduced to 4 and Ron Paul receiving sizeable blocks of votes it's become difficult for the media to avoid mentioning his name.
1st February 2008 - Ron Paul Wins Msnbc Debate Well so we think, though the share of time he received was miserable Dr. Paul scored some telling points in the debate amongst the four remaining contenders. At least with only 4 of them on the stage they couldn't cut the Good Doctor out of every shot. They all went on with the usual non commital stuff looking out to the audience hoping to work out what cliche would work best next. 31st January 2008 - Rudy Surrenders 4 Remain Now there are four. Rudy Giuliani has accepted the inevitable. despite the overwhelming support of the media and initial strong fundraising Giuliani has flown the white flag. This leaves four contenders; McCain, Romney, Huckabee and our own Dr. Paul. With Huckabee broke and his employees now volunteers within a couple of weeks we'll be down to three. Ron Paul's influence in the final stages of the race will rise and it will be impossible for the mainstream media to continue to ignore his campaign.

From an Australian perspective a successful Ron Paul campaign would lead to major changes in American foreign policy. While wrongly described as an "isolationist" Ron Paul believes in a limited international military role and avoiding government sponsored international alignments. Rather than policing the world the Paul philosophy is for US citizens and corporations to freely trade and connect with all nations, relationships being driven by mutual benefit. While Australia has recently staged our own mini revolution; disposing of the a government which had strongly aligned itself with the current American administration's world view the Paul philosophy would see an end to complex military alliances and treaties such as ANZUS with our relationship instead focussed on trade and personal associations.
